Fixed: Website access issues due to DNS updates

Some of you may have experienced trouble accessing gigbuilder.com over the past week — your browser would say the site could not be found, even though we were up and running the whole time. Here is what happened and how we fixed it.

What Happened

Your browser uses a system called DNS (think of it like a phone book) to find websites when you type in an address. We accidentally left some outdated phone book listings pointing to old, dead servers.

Why You Could Not Connect

When your computer asked the internet’s phone book “where is gigbuilder.com?”, some providers’ phone books had old, outdated answers saved. Once those saved copies expired, they could not find us.

How We Fixed It

We updated our domain’s listings in two places:

  • At our domain registrar (April 8)
  • At our DNS provider (April 9)

Now all the phone books point to our real, working servers.

What You Should Do

Most of you should see the fix automatically within a few hours. If you’re still having trouble:

  1. Restart your router — this clears the old cached phone book
  2. Try Google DNS — go to your device settings and set your DNS to 8.8.8.8
  3. Or try Cloudflare DNS — use 1.1.1.1 instead

Pro Tip: Your internet provider caches DNS info for a while so it does not have to look things up every single time. This is fast, but it means you sometimes see old info when things change. If you ever change hosting or move a domain, restart your router to make sure you’re getting fresh info.

Thanks for your patience while we got everything sorted!
